WHAT IS THE ICELANDIC NATIONAL LEAGUE ?

The Icelandic National League of North America (established in 1919), is a non-political, cultural organization that strives to contribute to North American culture through the preservation and promotion of the positive aspects of our Icelandic heritage which was brought to this continent by our Icelandic pioneer forefathers and their descendants, through the strengthening of cultural bonds and kinship ties with the people of Iceland and through the promotion of cooperation among Icelandic cultural groups here in North America.

The League is a large affiliation of groups and individuals from across North America, the categories of involvement being:

1. Chapters or Member Clubs
2. Affiliates
3. Individual Members

INL CHAPTER/CLUB MEMBER ORGANIZATIONS

There are currently 24 INL chapters and member clubs across Canada and the United States. It is hoped that more groups from both countries will join the ranks of the INL as fully participating members. These members enjoy voting rights and full participation in annual assemblies (INL Convention, Presidents' Meeting) as well as inclusion in all INL projects such as the INL Heritage calendar, INL Heritage Placement Signs, special outreaches and some services of the Head Office. Chapters and member groups contribute to the common endeavours and operation of the INL through annual pro rata fees and share information with the INL as a whole through participation in special projects.

AFFILIATES

Affiliates include organizations, clubs, foundations, boards, etc. working parallel to the INL for the preservation of our Icelandic heritage, who for geographic, structural or other reasons are unable to join the INL as full-fledged chapters, but wish to ally themselves with the INL to help strengthen the Icelandic cultural network across North America and to participate in INL projects. Affiliates enjoy inclusion in INL projects and regular communication with the INL, as well as many other benefits. They are not, however, voting members. Affiliates contribute to the INL network through a set annual fee of $100.00

INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS

Individual memberships provide an opportunity for individuals scattered across North America to maintain close ties with their Icelandic heritage through regular updates on INL projects and a reserved complimentary copy of the annual INL Icelandic Heritage Calendar. Individual members, who also enjoy voting rights at INL conventions, contribute an annual fee of $25.00.
