Annually, the Hekla Club hosts several events.

Icelandic Sunday at the Mindekirken Church is hosted as part of the Leifur Eiríksson celebration in October.

The festive December Family Christmas party, or Jólabarnaball is an event where children (of all ages) dance around a Christmas tree, meet the Jólasveinnar (Yuletide Lads), and everyone enjoys a holiday buffet.

Samkoma (“coming together”) has been held almost every spring since 1925.  It is hosted each April and is an gathering of visiting, dining and celebrating of Icelandic culture for everyone interested in Iceland, .  The Samkoma raffle is the Club’s major fundraising event, benefitting the Val Bjornson Icelandic Exchange Scholarship between the University of Minnesota and Háskóli Íslands (University of Iceland).

Kvennahlaup is an annual walk/run to encourage women to participate in sport and physical activity.  It is held in Iceland and around the globe, usually in June of each year.  In Minnesota we usually hold it prior to the Icelandic National Day picnic.  Brightly colored t-shirts and medals are part of the fun for the entire family!
