The Gimli Chapter, Icelandic National League was formed November 22, 1943. All the seventy-nine people who were present became the first members of this Chapter. Prior to this time, anyone from Gimli who wished to belong to the League did so through individual membership to the main organization, which was established in Winnipeg in 1919.

Besides working as a member of the National Organization, the Gimli Chapter initiates Icelandic Cultural Activities in the Gimli Community. The Chapter participates in events with other groups to display and interpret the Icelandic heritage.


Gimli Chapter OBJECTIVES:

1. To work as a chapter of the Icelandic National League.

2. To foster and promote good citizen-ship among people of Icelandic descent.

3. To foster and strengthen a mutual understanding of kinship, language, literature and cultural bonds among people of Icelandic descent in North America and the people of Iceland.

4. To foster and promote harmony and cooperation and to maintain an active and viable association with individuals and organizations which have similar purposes and objectives.

5. To actively support Icelandic cultural and heritage projects which may include education, history. publishing and the arts

MEMBERSHIP INVOLVEMENT:

- Maintain the culture and heritage
- Participate in events
- Attend Meetings
- Join discussions
- Offer suggestions
- Stand for office
- Vote on issues
- Sell one (or more) raffle ticket books
- Represent Chapter as delegate to I.N.L. Convention.

Or any other activities that meet the purposes of the Icelandic National League.
