Dust is everywhere and gets into everything, so it is hard to keep [equipment] clean. Wind storms can generate a wall of blowing sand as high as 1,000 feet. Fortunately it doesn't happen very often. |

Humanitarian aid is also one of the basic reasons for Canadian troops in Afghanistan. Seen here is a Canadian soldier overseeing the distribution of blankets and other essentials to local Afghans in need. Other military personnel are not far away standing guard over the situation. |
